As cliché as it sounds, we should all really be self-reflecting on 2017 and by now must have identified some areas of improvement. It is interesting how there are two main schools of thought when it comes to planning for a new year. The first which says YOLO – I only live once so I will take each day as it comes, and the second which I am a firm believer of which is failure to plan is preparation to fail.
Shall we get Spiritual?
Even God’s word instructs us to prepare in advance. A good place to start is to think about what happened this year then determine what and how you would like to improve.
Proverbs 24.27 Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.
Most times we just think about these things at the back of our heads however this is not sufficient, we have to be intentional, write those things down, present them to God and pray about them.
My Two Cents on Planning
The first thing is to be specific about what you want, then determine what you will do or how you will align yourself to achieve or receive it. Your life is made up of different aspects such as relationships, career, finances and more. Instead of coming up with vague goals for an entire 12 months, think about the important areas in your life, identify 2-3 things you would like to achieve in 2018 for each area then what steps you will take to realise those goals. For example, if one of your financial goals is to get out of debt then you should list down how you will reduce expenditure and increase your income.
I have taken some time to plan out my 2018. Aaaaah I am super excited for what is coming next!
